Seven Up! Brislington Blow St Austell Away

🦊 Match Report: Brislington FC 7–0 AFC St Austell

Western League Premier Division

Saturday 8 November 2025 | Ironmould Lane

Brislington produced their most dominant display of the season with a 7–0 demolition of AFC St Austell at Ironmould Lane, as Matt Lewton’s side recorded back-to-back home wins for the first time this campaign - and three victories from their last four outings.

Having enjoyed a full squad to choose from, Lewton named a strong starting XI with plenty of depth on the bench, including new signing Owen Lingard, recently arrived from Oldland Abbotonians.

First-Half Control

St Austell began brightly, enjoying some early possession and territory, but any hopes of an upset were dashed within five minutes. Brislington seized control almost immediately, Shea Mannings slotting home from close range after a slick attacking move.

Bris’ relentless start should have yielded more, with chances falling to multiple players as the visitors’ defence began to creak. St Austell, who have struggled defensively all season, were quickly on the back foot as Bris pressed for a second.

It eventually came on 32 minutes, when Harrison Kyte showcased his individual quality — weaving through defenders before finishing emphatically to double the lead.

Just before half time, Bris made it three. A perfectly delivered Jordan Scadding corner caused chaos in the box, and skipper Lewis Dunn reacted first to guide the ball home from close range. The Foxes went into the break 3–0 up, fully in command and playing with confidence.

🔥 Second-Half Ruthlessness

With the game effectively sealed, some teams might have eased off — but not Lewton’s Bris. The manager continued to demand high intensity, and his players responded in kind.

Within three minutes of the restart, Scadding turned from provider to scorer, driving home to make it 4–0. He doubled his tally on 68 minutes, steering in another superb finish to cap a standout personal display.

Late goals from Jay Malpas (79’) and Dan Winstone (83’) added further gloss to a ruthless performance, both finishing with confidence to complete the seven-goal rout.

Such was Bris’ dominance — 25 shots to 1, 10 corners to none, and 63% possession — that Lewton was even able to withdraw young centre-back Charlie Ames midway through the second half, ending his run of playing every minute of the season to date.

The only negative was the injury to Shea Mannings, who was forced off at half-time with what has since been confirmed as a serious ankle sprain likely to sideline him for the remainder of 2025.

🦊 Man of the Match: Lewis Saunders

While Brislington’s attacking players will take headlines, the standout performer was Lewis Saunders — immense in midfield, constantly breaking up play and setting the tempo. Though not on the scoresheet, he embodied everything positive about the Foxes’ display and continues to grow as a fan favourite.

💬 Manager’s Reaction

Lewton praised his side’s professionalism and work rate, while offering credit to the visitors:

“Credit goes to St Austell — they never gave up, and we wish them well for the rest of the season. But from our side, that’s back-to-back home wins for the first time this season, and three in our last four. The lads have been excellent and are really starting to gel. We’ve added real quality to an already strong squad, and we’ll need it with another tough run ahead — our next four opponents all sit in the top eight.”

🏁 The Final Word

This emphatic win was everything Brislington needed — confident, clinical, and full of belief. The Poplar Stadium was rocking once again, reminiscent of that Buckland victory when young Jaden Neale fired home his dramatic late winner.

If Lewton’s men can carry this momentum into the challenging fixtures ahead, there’s every reason to believe the Foxes can climb the table quickly and make Ironmould Lane a fortress once more.
