🏆 Somerset Premier Cup – Round One Preview
Wincanton Town vs Brislington
📅 Tuesday 14th October | 🕢 Kick-off 7:45pm | 🏟️ Wincanton Sports Ground
Brislington make the midweek trip down to Wincanton for their first-round tie in the Somerset Premier Cup, looking to build on the momentum of a fine performance at the weekend.
Lewton’s Foxes produced an emphatic display at Helston on Saturday to finally break the recent cycle, and they’ll be hoping that result provides a much-needed platform for a side that continues to evolve and find its rhythm.
Cup competitions often bring a different energy, and this one is no exception. With Brislington keen to maintain their winning feeling, the Somerset Premier Cup offers a chance to test themselves against familiar opposition while giving opportunities for players to stake their claim for regular places.
Wincanton, meanwhile, will also be welcoming a brief distraction from league action. The Yellow and Blacks are enduring a tough run in the Wessex Premier Division, sitting bottom of the table and still searching for their first league win of the campaign. However, their recent narrow defeat to Cowes Sports and spirited 4–3 cup battle against Hamworthy Recreation suggest they remain a threat, particularly on home soil.
There’s also a rich bit of shared history between the two clubs. Many Brislington supporters will fondly recall the last time these sides met — back in the Toolstation Division One Play-off Final a couple of seasons ago. On that memorable evening, Brislington dramatically overturned a 2–1 deficit with two goals in the dying minutes to seal promotion back to the Premier Division.
Both clubs have taken different paths since that night, but the ingredients are there for another lively encounter under the lights.
