MATCH PREVIEW: BRISLINGTON FC V BARNSTAPLE TOWN FC

ree

Brislington return to Ironmould Lane on Saturday for what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the weekend, as in-form Barnstaple Town FC make the trip to Bristol. It’s a meeting between two of the division’s strongest current performers, with Barnstaple taking an impressive 13 points from their last six matches, while the Foxes have gathered 10 from 18 during their own upturn under Matt Lewton.

Momentum is finally building around the squad, and after a run of encouraging results, Brislington will be aiming to turn form into a statement performance against a side pushing towards the higher reaches of the table.

The Opponents: Barnstaple Town FC

Barnstaple arrive in confident mood. Their recent form — four wins and a draw from six — has propelled them firmly into the top half, and their blend of physicality, organisation and attacking threat has made them one of the most difficult sides to break down.

Their away record is strong, and with 40 goals already scored this season, they travel with plenty of firepower. Brislington will need to be switched on from the first whistle, but recent home displays suggest they relish these high-tempo, competitive encounters.

🔴 The Hosts: Brislington FC

For Brislington, the past few weeks have showcased a squad beginning to find identity, rhythm and belief. Performances home and away have sharpened, the defensive shape has improved, and the Foxes are now carrying far more threat in the final third.

This weekend brings further cause for optimism:

  • Ryan Smallwood returns as number one between the sticks — a hugely popular figure whose impressive spell last season was cut short by injury.

  • Bris have also secured the signature of Ben Snell, one of the league’s most prolific forwards, adding proven goals and a focal point to Lewton’s evolving attack.

  • And there’s a major boost at the back with the return of an experienced defender and fan favourite, whose presence, leadership and calmness could be invaluable in what is likely to be a fierce, physical contest.

With fresh quality added to all areas of the pitch, Lewton now has greater depth, balance and competition for places — exactly what he has been working towards since taking charge.

📊 Form Guide (Last 6 – League)

Brislington FC: 🟢🟢⚪🔴🟢🔴 (10 points)

Barnstaple Town FC: 🟢🟢⚪🟢🔴🟢 (13 points)

Both sides arrive in strong form, and both have eyes on climbing the table over the coming weeks. For Brislington, this is another opportunity to show that their upward trajectory is real — and to claim a major scalp in front of the home supporters.

💬 Manager’s View (Augmented)

Lewton reflected on a positive week on the training pitch:

“Saturday’s point at Sidmouth showed the character and togetherness this group is building, and you could feel that carrying straight into training this week. The lads came back in with real energy — the intensity on Tuesday & Thursday was excellent, and having a near full squad available allowed us to work on a lot of detail. “It was also great to welcome Ryan, Ben and Asa into the group. All three trained well, settled quickly, and you can already see the lift they’ve brought to the squad. There’s a real sense of momentum growing, and with Ironmould Lane behind us again this weekend, we’ll be looking to carry that spirit into a big performance.”

✍🏻 The Final Word

This has all the makings of a superb Western League contest: two improving teams, two strong form guides, and two sides who will fancy their chances. Brislington will aim to impose themselves early, harnessing the energy of Ironmould Lane and integrating their new signings into a performance full of purpose.

If the Foxes can replicate the intensity of recent weeks — coupled with the added experience and firepower now available — they will back themselves to take another important step forward.
