Brislington FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Lewton as First Team Manager, following Ash Kington’s decision to step back to focus on playing.
Ash, who stepped up into management at the start of the season, has shown huge commitment and hard work during his time in charge. The club fully understands his decision and is pleased to confirm that he will remain an integral part of the setup as a player-coach, alongside the rest of the backroom staff.
Matt is a familiar face at Brislington, having led the U18s setup in recent years. He brings energy, charisma, and a strong footballing reputation into the role. Alongside his work at Brislington, Matt has gained valuable senior experience at Bridgwater United, making him well placed to lead the Foxes forward.
Chairman Jack Rogers said:
“Firstly, I want to thank Ash for the hard work and commitment he has shown since stepping into the manager’s role. We completely understand his decision to step back and are delighted that he will remain heavily involved as both coach and player.
At the same time, we’re really pleased to appoint Matt as First Team Manager. He has strong football links locally, a great reputation from his work with our U18s, and valuable experience from his time at Bridgwater United. Importantly, he already understands this club, its pathway, and its ambitions.
With Matt, Ash, George, Neil, and Everett, we have a committed and well-balanced team in place to support the players and take Brislington forward.”
New manager Matt Lewton expressed his delight at the appointment:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Brislington FC — this is a club I love. I’d like to thank Jack, Lee, and the committee for giving me this opportunity.
I also want to pay tribute to Ash Kington for the work he’s put in over the last three months. To follow on from Lee Perks was never going to be easy, but Ash has worked tirelessly and put the foundations in place for us to push on now.
Off the pitch, the improvements around the stadium have been fantastic and show the pride people take in this club. On the pitch, we’ve already been busy strengthening the squad — and I think fans will be very excited about what’s to come.
I’m looking forward to the away game against St Austell this weekend, and then I want everyone backing us at Ironmould Lane on Tuesday night against Bradford Town.”
Ash Kington added:
“First of all, I would like to thank Jack, Lee, and the committee for giving me the opportunity to manage this brilliant football club. However, deep down I knew I still wanted to play and contribute on the pitch alongside managing. As the weeks went on, I realised it was very difficult to do both without giving 100% to either.
I still feel like I have plenty to offer on the pitch, and I hope my recent performances have shown that. So I’ve made the difficult decision to step aside from management for now and give my all on the pitch. I’m looking forward to working with Matt, who is a superb coach and will be a great asset to the club. Together, we can bring the right level of success this club deserves.”
Ash will lead the side for one final time this Saturday when we travel to St Austell for our latest Jewson Western League clash.
Lewton’s first game in charge will be on Tuesday 9th September, when we welcome Bradford Town to the Poplar Insulation Stadium as we continue our Jewson Western League campaign.
We can’t wait to see Matt get underway in his new role and continue building momentum with Ash and the rest of the coaching team supporting him.
