Brislington Football Club are delighted to announce the start of an innovative Designer and Artist in Residence project with designer Ken Borg and artist Jonathan Kelham. The locally based creative duo will be working collaboratively with the committee, management team and volunteers at the club over the next 3 years with the residency culminating towards the 2026-27 season, which is the 70th Anniversary of the club.

As Designer & Artist in Residence the two Briz supporters will develop several projects across Ironmould Lane, creating a number of practical visual improvements throughout the ground to improve the match day experience, alongside the implementation of a contemporary graphic identity and other innovative initiatives to promote the club across the Brislington community and beyond.

The collaborator’s first project is the refurbishment of the 150 capacity Colin Arnold grandstand, which was last extended and refurbished in the 1990s.

Club Chairman Jack Rogers welcomed Ken and Jonathan to the club:

“On behalf of everyone at Brislington Football Club, I am delighted to welcome Ken Borg and Jonathan Kelham to the club as our first ever Designer and Artist in Residence. This innovative partnership represents an exciting chapter for the football club as we look toward our 70th anniversary in the 2026-27 season.

Ken and Jonathan, both loyal supporters, bring a unique blend of expertise and creativity to Ironmould Lane. Their ambitious plans align perfectly with our vision to strengthen ties with the community, enhance the matchday experience, and secure a bright future for the football club.

The proposed projects - including the refurbishment of the Colin Arnold Grandstand, development of a unified graphic identity, and improved stadium aesthetics - are practical yet bold. These initiatives will help us not only celebrate our heritage but also modernise the club’s image and broaden our appeal across South Bristol and beyond.

We are especially excited by the duo’s commitment to a “low-cost, high-impact” ethos, which will ensure meaningful changes without placing undue strain on the club’s resources. Their plans to engage with local residents and businesses, seek external funding, and promote the club through creative channels are welcome steps in ensuring Brislington Football Club continues to thrive as a pillar of the community.

I’m thrilled to see our club embracing this innovative intersection of football and art. I have no doubt that Ken and Jonathan’s passion and vision will bring lasting benefits to the football club, and I encourage everyone - supporters, players, and the wider community - to join us on this journey.

Let’s make the next three years a transformative period for Brislington Football Club!”

Ken Borg is a designer and partner at Studio Mothership, working across 2D & 3D visual projects for both commercial and non-profit organisations. Jonathan Kelham is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who has shown work internationally, including projects which intersect football culture and art practice.

Design is an essential tool for any organisation but that for many community groups and lower league sports clubs this is out of reach due to limited resources and funding. With this residency we hope to help the committee project this football club into a new era, reaching new fans and embed its position within the local community, whilst also putting a spotlight on the difficulties faced by many clubs at this level, and the dedication and passion of volunteers that make it happen.” Ken Borg. Designer in Residence.

The combination of football and visual arts mean this residency is like a dream!... This intersection between football culture and visual art, situated in a football club is an exciting and unusual opportunity. We hope to be able to bring our expertise and enthusiasm to support this community asset.” Jonathan Kelham. Artist in Residence
